Visit Father McGivney's Tomb
Upon his death in 1890, Father McGivney was buried in old St. Joseph Cemetery in his native Waterbury, Conn.
In 1982, Father McGivney’s mortal remains were reinterred to a polished granite sarcophagus at the rear nave of St. Mary’s Church, the church in nearby New Haven, where he founded the Knights of Columbus 100 years before.
Today visiting Knights and families from as far away as the Philippines come to St. Mary’s to view Father McGivney’s tomb.
Many say the prayer for Father McGivney’s canonization.
Their visit to the tomb is often very emotional for Knights. Many find it brings a tangible connection between the spiritual rewards they receive through Knighthood and the simple parish priest who bestowed that gift.
